US teen Tien stuns Russia’s Medvedev in round 2 of Australian Open

Tien managed to eliminate 5th seed in men's singles in match that lasted more than 4 hours

American teenager Learner Tien stunned Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in a second round men's singles clash Thursday at the Australian Open.

In a match that lasted four hours and 49 minutes, Tien managed to eliminate the 5th seed in men's singles 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (8), 1-6, 7-6 (10-7).

Tien will face France’s Corentin Moutet in the next round.

- Kecmanovic shocks 18th seed Hurkacz

Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic shocked men's singles 18th seed Hubert Hurkacz of Poland with straight sets in round 2 on Thursday.

Kecmanovic overpowered last year's quarterfinalist with 6-4 6-4 6-2 sets.

The 25-year-old will face Denmark’s Holger Rune in the next round.

- Marozsan knocks men's no. 17 seed Tiafoe out

Fabian Marozsan knocked men's no. 17 seed Frances Tiafoe off in round 2 on Thursday.

The Hungarian player eliminated the American 2019 quarterfinalist sets of 6-7(3) 6-4 3-6 6-4 6-1.

Marozsan will take on Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego in round 3.

- Men's no. 4 seed Fritz hammers Garin

Men's no. 4 seed Taylor Fritz hammered Cristian Garín in a round 2 singles match Thursday.

The US player beat the Chilean with straight sets of 6-2 6-1 6-0.

Fritz will play with France’s Gael Monfils in a round 3 clash.

- Women's no. 2 Swiatek eliminates Sramkova with straight sets

Women's no. 2 Iga Swiatek of Poland eliminated Slovakia’s Rebecca Sramkova with straight sets of 6-0 6-2 in a round 2 clash Thursday.

"We try to think long-term," said four-time French Open winner Swiatek. "Yesterday I hit a little bit longer. Even though it rained, I was able to do that. So today I didn't feel like I need to practice more. But for sure, on Grand Slams, it's great that you can work on some stuff between matches."

Swiatek will play against Briton Emma Raducanu in the next round.

- Women's no. 6 seed Rybakina beats Jovic

Women's 6th seed Elena Rybakina beat 17-year-old American wildcard Iva Jovic in round 2 on Thursday.

The Kazakh player eliminated the youngster with 6-0 6-3 straight sets.

"My serve was not working really well," said the 2023 finalist after placing four aces and landing just 49% of first serves, in part due to windy conditions.

Rybakina will face Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska in a round 3 match.
