US to give up to $10,000 reward to federal employees for savings suggestions

Employees to be rewarded with up to 1% of savings achieved for approved actions that result in savings -- limited to $10,000 per contract

ISTANBUL (AA) - The US announced Wednesday it will offer federal employees up to $10,000 in bonuses for suggestions that lead to saving money for the government.

The Treasury Department and the General Services Administration (GSA) launched the Savings Award for Verified Efficiencies (SAVE) Program to prevent unnecessary spending on federal contracts, according to a statement by the GSA.

"This joint initiative empowers federal employees to identify and eliminate wasteful spending in federal contracts, delivering measurable savings for taxpayers while maintaining mission readiness," it said.

It noted that employees will be rewarded with up to 1% of the savings achieved for approved actions that result in savings -- limited to a maximum of $10,000 per contract.

"Through this strengthened partnership, Treasury and GSA are setting a new standard for responsible stewardship of public funds,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

“Together, we are building a cost-saving model that can be scaled across government. We look forward to working with our partners across the Trump Administration to ensure that every taxpayer dollar is spent wisely and efficiently," he added.
