US top court allows Trump administration to enforce transgender military ban

HAMILTON, Canada (AA) - The US Supreme Court on Tuesday gave the green light for President Donald Trump to restart a ban on transgender people serving in the military.

In a brief order, the Supreme Court lifted a lower court's March block on the policy, allowing the ban to take effect while the case continues in the appeals court.

Three liberal justices, namely Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson, disagreed with the decision.

The policy stops most transgender people from joining or staying in the military, especially those who have received medical treatment for gender transition.

The ban expands on a policy introduced by Trump during his term, which the Supreme Court allowed to take effect. Former President Biden later reversed these restrictions.
