US Treasury weighs $1 coin featuring Trump for nation’s 250th anniversary
Treasurer Brandon Beach says draft design under review as part of semiquincentennial plans

ISTANBUL (AA) - US Treasurer Brandon Beach said Friday the Treasury is considering minting special one-dollar coins featuring President Donald Trump’s image to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Beach reposted on US social media company X a draft design showing Trump’s face on one side and on the other a portrait of him raising his fist after the 2024 near-assassination attempt.
“No fake news here. These first drafts honoring America’s 250th Birthday and @POTUS are real,” he wrote.
“Looking forward to sharing more soon, once the obstructionist shutdown of the United States government is over,” Beach added.
A law Trump signed at the end of his first term -- the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 -- allows the Treasury to issue $1 coins “with designs emblematic of the U.S. semiquincentennial” for one year starting January 2026.
It is unclear if separate legal restrictions barring a living president’s portrait on currency would apply to this commemorative issue. In 1926, Congress carved out an exception for President Calvin Coolidge, who appeared on a special half-dollar coin for the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence -- the only time a sitting president has featured on a coin while in office.
