US undersecretary of state for political affairs visits Greece

Victoria Nuland meets with Greek prime minister, foreign minister, defense minister in Athens

ANKARA (AA) - US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland visited the Greek capital Athens on Tuesday to discuss bilateral and regional developments.

Nuland was first received by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

During their meeting, the latest developments in the region and Ukraine were addressed, Mitsotakis said on Twitter.

Later, she met with Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias.

The situation in Ukraine since the start of Russia’s war and developments in the Eastern Mediterranean were discussed, Dendias said in a tweet.

He added that the means to further improve bilateral relations in all areas were also addressed.

In her final meeting of the day, Nuland met with Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos.

During the meeting, which was also attended by Deputy Defense Minister Nikos Hardalias, Chief of General Staff Konstantinos Floros and US Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt, it was emphasized that the recently renewed US-Greece Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement (MDCA) contributes to the expansion and deepening of the strategic defense partnership between the two countries, according to Greece’s official news agency AMNA.

On Monday, Nuland visited the Turkish capital Ankara and met with Turkiye’s Presidential Spokesman Ibrahim Kalin and Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal.

Accordingly, it was announced in a joint statement that the Turkiye-US Strategic Mechanism was launched on April 4 to further expand the two countries’ bilateral cooperation.
