WASHINGTON (AA) - The US is working to bring home Travis Timmerman, who was reportedly released from detention by Syria’s new leadership, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Thursday.

"I can't give you any details on exactly what's going to happen, except to say, to bring him home," Blinken told reporters during a visit to Jordan, where he engaged in discussions on Syria following the ouster of Bashar al-Assad.

Anadolu captured footage Thursday of Timmerman, who had been missing for months, after his release from a detention center in Damascus.

Timmerman said he was released from Palestine Branch (Far Falastin), a detention and torture center in Damascus, as thousands prisoners were freed after the collapse of the Baath regime on Sunday.

Timmerman told Anadolu that he was captured by Syrian border security forces seven months ago while he was in the mountains between Lebanon and Syria.

He said he had traveled from the US to do the Hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca. He made his way to Europe in March and arrived in Zahle in eastern Lebanon in May before entering Syria.
