Paris Court of Appeals announces it will rule on right-wing Marine Le Pen's appeals likely by next summer

PARIS / ISTANBUL (AA) - The appeals of the corruption conviction of right-wing French politician Marine Le Pen, a presumed leading contender in the 2027 presidential election, are expected to be ruled on next year.

The Paris Court of Appeals said three separate appeals were filed following Monday’s ruling, which convicted Le Pen of embezzling EU funds. The court said it would review the appeals and could issue a decision by the summer of 2026.

France is set to hold its next presidential election in 2027.

Under Monday’s verdict, the 56-year-old was banned from running for public office for five years.

Le Pen also got a four-year prison sentence, including two years with an electronic tag and the remainder suspended. She was also fined €100,000 ($108,200).
