Virus continues to bear down on Eurasia, Central Asia

BAKU (AA) - Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise across Eurasian and Central Asian countries on Friday.

- Kazakhstan

In the Central Asian country of Kazakhstan, new cases rose by 1,687 to reach a total of 78,486.

The count of recoveries rose to 49,488, with 1,268 new additions, while the country’s death toll stands at 610, the Health Ministry said.

- Ukraine

Health Minister Maksym Stepanov announced 972 more virus cases over the past 24 hours, raising the overall count to 62,823, including 4,465 children and 8,196 health workers.

As many as 20 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,571, while recoveries climbed to 34,886, with 886 additions in the country, where quarantine measures were extended until July 31.

- Kyrgyzstan

In Kyrgyzstan, as many as 921 more people tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the tally to 31,247.

To date, a total of 1,211 people have died from COVID-19 and pneumonia in the country.

- Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan, 283 more people contracted the virus, raising the tally to 18,986.

Six more fatalities brought the toll to 103, while 147 more recoveries over the past 24 hours raised the total to 10,147.

The Health Ministry said 8,734 people were currently receiving treatment.

The country’s President Sevket Mirziyoyev stated that a group of professors of medicine will arrive in Uzbekistan, adding: “We continue our efforts to invite experienced specialists from other countries to Uzbekistan.”

Furthermore, a group of health workers, who are on the frontlines of the fight against coronavirus were rewarded with medals by the presidency.

- Armenia

The virus cases in Armenia increased to 36,513, as 451 more people contracted COVID-19 over the past day, according to Health Ministry data.

Four more people died of the virus, raising the toll to 692. As many as 25,734 patients have recovered, while the treatment of nearly 10,000 continues.

Over 153,800 tests have been performed in the country.

The state of emergency announced in March due to the pandemic was extended until Aug. 12.

- Georgia

The Prime Ministry said in a statement that 19 people were diagnosed with the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 1,145.

So far, 912 people have recovered from the virus. The fatalities were reported at 16, while about 6,000 people were put under quarantine.

As of today, domestic flights in the country have resumed.
