We will reach ‘Century of Türkiye’ with one heart: First lady

ANKARA (AA) - Türkiye's 85 million citizens will reach the ideal of the 'Century of Türkiye' all together, first lady Emine Erdogan said Sunday.

"We express our gratitude to all our citizens who went to the polls saying trust, stability, a great and strong Türkiye,” Erdogan said on Twitter.

"We will continue to be one and together with the love of the first day, and we will reach our ideal of the 'Century of Türkiye' as 85 million, with one heart," she added.

She also thanked “our fellow travelers” for their "unwavering" support and effort on the path.

Her remarks came after Recep Tayyip Erdogan won Türkiye's presidency in a runoff election with 52.14% of the vote.

Opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu got 47.86%, said Ahmet Yener, chairman of the Supreme Election Council (YSK).

On May 14, no candidate won the required 50% in the first round, triggering the presidential runoff, although Erdogan took the lead with 49.52%. Erdogan's electoral alliance also won a majority in parliament on May 14.
