WASHINGTON (AA) - The approval rating for US President Donald Trump among white evangelical Protestants dropped slightly, according to a recent poll.

More than seven-in-10 among respondents, or (72%), approve of the way Trump is handling his job, according to the Pew Research Center survey released Wednesday.

That is a 6% drop from 78% recorded in April.

The survey was conducted June 16 - 22.

If the presidential election were held today, 82% of white evangelical Protestant registered voters would vote for Trump or indicated they are leaning toward voting for the incumbent, according to the survey.

Just 17% said they would back the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee, former US Vice President Joe Biden.

A Monmouth University poll released Thursday showed Biden continues to lead Trump by a wide margin nationally.

Biden holds a 12-point nationwide lead against Trump, 53% to 41% among registered voters, according to Politico.

Voters will decide Nov. 2 who they will elect as president and other national, state and county positions.
