ISTANBUL (AA) - The White Helmets civil defense agency on Tuesday urged humanitarian organizations for aid to help in rescue and relief efforts in northern Syria after two major earthquakes in the region.
"Time is running out. Hundreds still trapped under the rubble. Every second could mean saving a life. We appeal to all humanitarian organizations and international bodies to provide material support and assistance to organizations responding to this disaster," it said in a statement.
The volunteer organization said search and rescue operations continued for over 29 hours amid harsh conditions, adding that so far the death toll surpassed 790 with more than 2,200 injuries.
"The death toll is expected to dramatically rise as hundreds remain trapped under rubble," it added
The agency said the number of fully collapsed buildings in northern Syria had increased to over 210, with an additional 440 partially collapsed and thousands more damaged by cracks.
A 7.7. magnitude earthquake struck at dawn on Monday in Türkiye and Syria, followed by another at noon with a magnitude of 7.6, inflicting massive losses in both countries.
