ISTANBUL (AA) - Renowned French pianist Richard Clayderman expressed his condolences over powerful earthquakes that devastated parts of Türkiye earlier this month.
"I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to the Turkish people and to those who are suffering because of these terrible earthquakes," Clayderman said in a video message.
Announcing the delay of an upcoming concert in Istanbul to April 28 from the previous March 5, he addressed victims of the disaster by saying: "You are in my thoughts. I hope that we can find some comfort in a few hours of gentle music together."
The artist has sold more than 80 million albums, 267 gold, and 70 platinum albums and given 2,000 concerts throughout his career.
Clayderman has played with prestigious orchestras such as the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and inspired many children to play the piano in the 1980s and 1990s.
At least 42,310 people have been killed by two strong earthquakes that jolted southern Türkiye on Feb. 6, the country’s disaster management agency said Tuesday.
The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes, centered in the Kahramanmaras province, affected more than 13 million people across 11 provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, Elazig, and Sanliurfa.
