High Anti-Corruption Court reduces bail from 50M hryvnias ($1,153,162) to 33M ($767,000)
ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine’s High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) released Yuliya Tymoshenko, the leader of the Batkivshchyna party faction, on bail Friday, the RBC-Ukraine news agency reported.
A statement from HACC following the ruling said Tymoshenko, who is accused of offering bribes to members of parliament, cannot leave the Kyiv region, has surrendered her passport and must refrain from communicating with several members of parliament.
The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office requested bail of 50 million hryvnias ($1,153,162), but the court reduced it to 33,280,000 hryvnias ($767,000).
Tymoshenko said she plans to appeal the decision on the preventive measures in an appellate court, the outlet reported.
Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies said Wednesday they have uncovered a vote-buying scheme allegedly led by the head of a parliamentary faction, accusing the lawmaker of attempting to establish a long-term system of illicit payments in exchange for voting loyalty.
