Coronavirus infects more people in Eurasia

Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan report new cases, fatalities

BAKU (AA) – The novel coronavirus continues spreading Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan with new cases and deaths registered.

Ukraine registered 2,430 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 128,228, Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said.

The death toll rose to 2,710 as 54 more people died of the virus. Most recently 859 people recovered and the nationwide recoveries hit 59,676.

Some 66,000 people are currently receiving medical treatment in Ukraine where the number of cases has been on the rise since August.

- Uzbekistan

The Uzbek Health Ministry said in a statement that 198 more people contracted the virus and the total count climbed to 42,635 and fatalities rose to 331 with the deaths of four people.

The official data showed that another 21 people recovered from the disease, bringing the recoveries to 39,883, which approximately translates to 93% recovery rate.

A total of 2,421 people are going through medical treatment in the country where some 100,000 people are currently monitored for the infection.

- Armenia

According to the Armenian Health Ministry, 196 people were diagnosed with the disease and the case toll rose to 44,271.

The virus claimed three more lives in the country where the total death toll count stands at 887.

So far 38,855 people have recovered from the virus and 4,258 people are going through medical treatment.

- Kyrgyzstan

Norbolot Usenbayev, the deputy health minister of Kyrgyzstan, said 99 people were diagnosed with the virus in the past 24 hours and the registered cases totaled 44,135.

Usenbayev said 39,174 people recovered from COVID-19 and nobody died from the virus in the past 24 hours.

According to the official, over 5,400 people are receiving treatment and a total of 1,060 people lost their lives to the coronavirus.

- Kazakhstan

According to the Kazakh Health Ministry, confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 106,032 with 88 more people contracting the virus in the past 24 hours.

With the recovery of some 600 people, total recoveries neared 98,000; death toll stands at 1,606 as six more people died from the disease.

More than 6,000 people are going through medical treatment in the country where the occupancy of hospitals dropped by 17%.

The virus has claimed more than 863,500 lives in 188 countries and regions since it broke out in China in December.

The US, Brazil, India are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 26 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries surpassing 17.3 million, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
