Djibouti receives 300,000 doses of Chinese vaccine

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AA) - The Djiboutian government on Thursday received 300,000 doses of China's Sinovac vaccine as the country's vaccination campaign against the coronavirus continues.

Djibouti health authorities and senior government officials received the vaccines at Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport.

Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf Thursday said on Twitter they received 300,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine, adding the vaccination campaign will continue.

Earlier this month, Djibouti received its first batch of the vaccine provided by the global COVAX facility.

On Monday, the vaccination started in Djibouti with health minister, foreign minister, and women and family affairs minister taking their first jabs.

Bordering Somalia in the south and the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in the east, Djibouti is a small but strategic country located in the Horn of Africa.

The country has so far recorded 6,385 COVID-19 cases, 63 deaths and 6,007 recoveries.
