ANKARA (AA) – Amid a surge in COVID-19 infections, Cambodia on Thursday brought back restrictions in the country’s capital until June 16.

The Phnom Penh municipal administration has “temporarily prohibited all high-risk occupational and business activities for COVID-19 transmission,” the government said in a statement to the official AKP News.

Under the latest measures, public and private schools will only conduct online classes, while entertainment businesses such as karaoke, night clubs, beer gardens, casinos, resorts, museums, amusement parks, massage therapists, cinemas, theaters, and fitness clubs and centers will be closed.

Gatherings of 15 people and above have also been banned.

Earlier in April, the government faced criticism for imposing severe restrictions in several areas of the capital.

The Southeast Asian nation reported 729 new COVID-19 infections and six deaths on Thursday.

The overall count in Cambodia stands at 32,189, including 236 deaths and 24,763 recoveries.
