JAKARTA, Indonesia (AA) - More than 113,000 individuals in Singapore have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, the country's health authority said on Thursday.

The Health Ministry said in a press release that over 50 individuals have also received their second dose of the vaccine and completed the full vaccination regimen.

“These numbers are expected to rise substantially in the coming weeks as we continue to ramp up our vaccination operations safely,” it said.

The ministry said it has received 432 adverse event reports from healthcare professionals as of Wednesday, most of them for regular symptoms, including injection site pain and swelling, fever, headache, fatigue, body aches, nausea, and allergic reactions.

“These symptoms are reactions generally associated with all vaccinations and they generally resolved on their own within a few days,” said the ministry.

The COVID-19 vaccination for seniors aged 70 years old and above commenced on Wednesday in the Ang Mo Kio and Tanjong Pagar towns, which have larger number of older adults, according to the ministry.

“This has been proceeding well, and more than 250 seniors were vaccinated on the first day,” it said.

The ministry also said it will set up more vaccination centers over the next few weeks to ensure that everyone can conveniently receive the jabs.

“In total, there will be around 40 vaccination centers, with each vaccination center planned for an estimated capacity of 2,000 vaccinations per day,” it added.

Singapore has so far reported 59,425 COVID-19 cases, including 29 deaths and 59,104 recoveries.
