Singapore tightens travel restrictions for Vietnam

Decision comes after increase in number of COVID-19 cases in Vietnam

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AA) - Singapore will tighten its border measures for travelers from Vietnam.

“Starting Friday [Feb. 12] at 11.59 pm, all travelers with travel history to Vietnam within the 14 days prior to departure will have to serve a 14-day stay-home notice and undergo a PCR test before the end of the notice period,” the Health Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The decision was taken following the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Vietnam.

Previously, visitors from Vietnam could enter Singapore if their on-arrival COVID-19 PCR test result is negative.

Meanwhile, Singapore will “adjust” measures for travelers from Australia’s New South Wales, where the COVID-19 situation has improved and no local community cases were reported in the last 21 days.

Starting as of 11:59 p.m. local time (1559GMT) on Wednesday, Singaporeans, permanent residents and long-term pass holders returning from New South Wales will be able to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival at the airport in lieu of a seven-day stay-home notice.

Previously, Singaporeans, permanent residents and long-term pass holders entering Singapore with travel history to New South Wales had to serve a seven-day stay-home notice and take a PCR test before the end of the notice period.
