Turkey’s daily COVID-19 patients top 2,000 for 3rd day in a row

Another 1,493 recoveries seen in last 24 hours, according to Health Ministry data

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey confirmed 2,165 more COVID-19 patients over the past 24 hours, authorities announced on Friday, the third day in a row new patient numbers have topped 2,000.

The country's overall coronavirus patient count now stands at 357,693, according to Health Ministry data. On Thursday, 2,102 new coronavirus patients were reported in the country.

Turkey registered another 1,493 recoveries over the past day, raising the tally to 311,520.

As many as 115,979 new tests were conducted since Thursday, bringing the total to nearly 13 million.

Meanwhile, the virus-linked death toll in Turkey reached 9,658, with 74 new fatalities reported.

The number of patients in critical condition now stands at 1,648.

Wearing masks is compulsory in all public areas and outdoors in Turkey.

Nearly 41.86 million people have tested positive for the novel pandemic globally, while nearly 1.14 million have died, and around 28.41 recovered, according to the US Johns Hopkins University’s running tally.

The US, India, and Brazil are currently the worst-hit countries.
