Virus cases in Eurasia, Central Asia up by 9,301

Ukraine, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan report new COVID-19 cases, fatalities on Monday

KYIV, Ukraine ( AA) - More than 9,300 coronavirus cases and 87 deaths were reported across Eurasia and Central Asia on Monday.

- Ukraine

Ukraine registered 6,574 new cases and 69 fatalities over the past 24 hours, raising the overall count to 402,194, including 7,375 deaths.

Recoveries increased by 2,327 to reach 163,768, according to Health Minister Maksym Stepanov.

Some 801 new patients were admitted to hospitals over the past day, he said.

More than 36,000 COVID-19 tests were done in the past 24 hours, the minister added.

Meanwhile, Oleksiy Movchan, a lawmaker from the Servant of the People party, announced that he tested positive for the virus.

- Georgia

Georgia’s COVID-19 case tally surged by 1,696 over the past day to reach 37,304.

At least seven more patients died, raising the toll to 342, while recoveries increased by 1,694 to reach 26,800.

Georgia has seen a spike in infection since early September and there are currently 4,200 patients in hospitals, 3,070 in quarantine, and 2,324 people under observation across the country.

The country’s Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia was quarantined after one of his bodyguards tested positive for the virus.

- Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan registered 442 new cases and five fatalities over the past day, raising the overall count to 112,860, including 1,857 deaths.

Recoveries increased by 114 to reach 106,514, according to the Health Ministry.

As many as 4,489 patients, including 333 children, are under treatment in the country, with 150 of them in serious condition and 15 in critical state, the ministry added.

Pneumonia patients that have COVID-19 symptoms but tested negative for the virus increased by 41 to reach 38,000.

Two more such patients died over the past 24 hours, moving the toll to 399, the ministry said.

At least 28,819 pneumonia patients have recovered in the country, it added.

- Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan reported 153 more virus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the total to 67,254. One more fatality moved the death toll to 574, while recoveries rose by 112 to reach 64,466, bringing the total recovery rate to 96%, the Health Ministry said.

Some 2,217 COVID-19 patients remain under treatment in the country.

- Kyrgyzstan

A total of 436 more COVID-19 cases have raised Kyrgyzstan’s overall count to 59,879, according to the Health Ministry.

Five more patients died over the past day, moving the death toll to 1,155, while 332 recoveries pushed the total to 50,741.

As many as 3,941 patients are in hospitals across the country, with 3,941 more in home quarantine.

Kyrgyzstan has carried out 417,187 coronavirus tests since March 18, according to official data.
