With new casualties, COVID-19 tally swelling in Eurasia

Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Georgia register fresh infections, deaths from coronavirus

BAKU (AA) - Coronavirus cases and fatalities continued to rise in several Eurasia countries on Monday.

- Ukraine

Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said 2,141 more people tested positive for the virus over the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 121,215.

He said 30 more fatalities raised the death toll to 2,557 while recoveries increased by 380 to reach 57,114.

More than 61,500 patients remain under treatment in Ukraine, which extended quarantine until Nov. 1.

- Uzbekistan

A total of 227 new cases raised Uzbekistan’s overall count to 41,651, while four more fatalities took the death toll to 317.

At least 164 more patients recovered over the past day, bringing the total to 38,819.

According to the Health Ministry, 2,515 patients remain under treatment and around 100,000 more are under medical surveillance.

- Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, 111 new infections raised the case count to 105,795.

Recoveries grew to 96,297 with 162 additions, while seven fatalities took the death toll to 1,588, the Health Ministry said.

- Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan recorded 78 more cases, the lowest number in five months, raising the total to 43,898.

A total of 1,059 patients have died and 38,459 have recovered from the virus so far, according to the Health Ministry.

At least 6,000 people are still under treatment in the country, the ministry added.

- Tajikistan

Tajikistan reported 34 more cases of coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the tally to 8,550, including 68 deaths.

A total of 7,341 patients have recovered so far, while 1,141 are still under treatment.

- Georgia

Georgia’s Prime Ministry said in a statement that there are 1,528 cases in the country with 18 more additions over the past day.

The number of recoveries reached 1,240 as 19 more people recovered over the past 24 hours. Deaths from the virus stood at 19.
