Asian markets end 1st transaction day with losses

ISTANBUL (AA) - Major Asian indices closed with losses on Monday amid persisting recession concerns and general wariness ahead of key central bank meetings this week.

The Asia Dow, which includes blue-chip companies in the region, was down 0.98% to 3,263.63 points, while Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.21% to 27,842.33.

The Hang Seng, the benchmark for blue-chip stocks trading on the Hong Kong stock exchange, dropped 2.2% to 19,463.63 points.

The Indian Sensex benchmark also fell 0.19% to 3,239.66 points.

China’s Shanghai Stock Exchange tumbled 0.87% to close at 3,179.04, while the Singapore index was down 0.08% to 62,130.57.

Central banks around the world, including the US and UK, will take interest rate decisions this week.

Earlier on Monday, Japan announced producer prices in the country increased 9.3% year-on-year in November.

Over in China, the central bank sold 750 billion yuan ($107.5 billion) worth of special sovereign bonds in the open market on Monday.
