ANKARA (AA) – Major Asian stock markets closed mixed on Thursday following dovish remarks from the US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.
The Fed on Wednesday raised its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points and Powell said the “disinflationary process has started.”
The Asia Dow, which includes blue-chip companies in the region, rose 0.32% to 3,551.58 points.
Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 was up 0.20% to close at 27,402.05.
The Hang Seng, the benchmark for blue-chip stocks trading on the Hong Kong stock exchange, fell 0.52% to 21,958.36.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority on Thursday hiked its base rate by 25 basis points to 5.0%, the highest level since January 2008.
China’s Shanghai Stock Exchange was flat at 3,285.67.
India’s Sensex benchmark increased 0.38% to close at 59,932.24, while the Singapore index dropped 0.41% to 3,363.68.
