AstraZeneca seeks vaccine approval in Philippines
Philippines also evaluating Pfizer application, yet to secure deal with vaccine makers as COVID-19 cases top 480,000

ANKARA (AA) – Drug manufacturer AstraZeneca has applied for emergency use authorization for its COVID-19 vaccine in the Philippines, local media reported on Wednesday.
The Food and Drug Administration of the Philippines will take between three to four weeks to reach a decision, the agency’s head, Eric Domingo, told daily Philstar.
He said the approval depends on the “completeness of their [AstraZeneca’s] submission.”
The British-Swedish drugmaker is the second company to seek approval for use of its COVID-19 vaccine in the Philippines, following American firm Pfizer’s application last month.
The Philippines, which has recorded over 480,700 cases and 9,347 deaths to date, is yet to secure a deal with any manufacturer for supply of COVID-19 vaccines.
