Brazil's retail sales up 1% annually in February, but monthly figure falls 0.1%

Expectation for figures was to show annual increase of 0.9%, post monthly decline of 0.2%

ISTANBUL (AA) - Brazil's retail sales showed an annual gain of 1% in February but posted a monthly decline of 0.1%, according to data released Tuesday.

The market expectation for the figures was to show an annual increase of 0.9% and post a monthly decrease of 0.2%.

Retail sales increased 2.6% year-on year and rose 3.8% from the previous month.

Last month, six out of eight retail trade activities recorded negative rates, with computer and communication office equipment and materials falling 10.4%, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) said in a statement.

Fabrics, clothing and footwear showed a decline of 6.3%, while furniture and household appliances decreased 1.7%, according to IBGE.
