ISTANBUL (AA) - Germany's corporate insolvencies climbed 2.4% year-on-year in June, according to preliminary estimates by the federal statistical office Destatis on Friday.
The final data on insolvencies for April showed an increase of 11.5% year-on-year to 2,125 cases, it said.
"The local courts estimated the creditors' claims from the corporate insolvencies reported in April 2025 at approximately €2.5 billion ($2.9 billion)," Destatis said in a statement.
In April 2024, the claims amounted to approximately €11.4 billion. "This decline in claims, coupled with a simultaneous increase in the number of corporate insolvencies, is due to the fact that more economically significant companies filed for insolvency in April 2024 than in April 2025."
The highest number of bankruptcies in April 2025 was seen in the transportation and storage sector with 11.3 cases per 10,000 companies, followed by the construction sector with 9.8 cases per 10,000 companies.
Apart from corporate bankruptcies, 6,328 cases were filed for consumer bankruptcy in April, rising 0.8% compared to the same period in 2024.
Last month, the German insurance firm Allianz Trade announced that it expects insolvencies in Germany to climb 11% year-on-year in 2025 due to tariff uncertainty and a bleak economic outlook.
The total number of insolvencies in Germany is expected to rise to 24,400 this year, according to a statement by Allianz Trade.
A further increase of 3% is expected next year, reaching 25,050 cases.
