Eurozone unemployment rate at new record low

ANKARA (AA) — The jobless rate in the euro area fell to a new record low of 6.5% in April, the EU's statistical office announced on Thursday.

The figure was slightly down from 6.6% in March and 6.7% in April 2022, Eurostat data showed.

EU-wide unemployment, which includes countries that are in the bloc but don't use its common currency, remained unchanged at 6% in April compared to the prior month and was down from 6.1% a year ago.

Some 13.03 million people in the EU, including 11.09 million in the euro area, were unemployed in April, according to Eurostat.

The number of jobless people fell by 18,000 in the bloc and by 33,000 in the euro area compared to March.

Youth unemployment stood at 13.8% in the EU and 13.9% in the euro area, both down from 14% in the previous month.
