ANKARA (AA) – France’s annual consumer inflation fell to 5.9% in December, driven by a slowdown in energy prices, according to official data released on Friday.

The figure was down from a historic high of 6.2% in November.

Energy prices were up 15.1% on annual basis in December, following an 18.4% surge in November, French statistical office Insee said.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.1% in December, after a 0.3% spike in November, in line with the flash estimate released at the beginning of January.

Energy prices fell 3.6%, following a rise of 0.9%, due to the decline in prices of petroleum products, which slipped 5.2% after a 0.3% spike.
