GENEVA (AA) - Hungary on Wednesday vowed to "immediately" launch a legal challenge once the EU plan to phase out Russian fossil fuel imports is formally adopted.
"As soon as the RePowerEU plan is formally adopted, we will immediately challenge it before the EU Court of Justice. Legal proceedings will start without delay," Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on US social media platform X.
"Preparatory work is already underway," he said. "We will do everything necessary to defend Hungary's energy security."
Earlier in the day, the EU said it will "effectively and permanently" stop the import of Russian gas and move towards the phaseout of Russian oil under the provisional political agreement reached by the European Parliament and European Council.
