NEW DELHI (AA) – India on Sunday called for “immediate” de-escalation after the US carried out airstrikes on three nuclear sites in Iran.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and “discussed in detail the current situation.”
“Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward, and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability,” Modi wrote on X.
Tensions in the region further escalated after US President Donald Trump announced Sunday that American forces carried out “very successful” airstrikes on the three Iranian nuclear sites -- Fordo, Natanz and Esfahan -- amid growing fears of a broader conflict.
Hostilities broke out on June 13 when Israel launched airstrikes on multiple sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran to respond with retaliatory missile strikes.
Israeli authorities said at least 25 people have been killed and hundreds injured in Iranian missile attacks since then.
Meanwhile, in Iran, 430 people have been killed and more than 3,500 wounded in the Israeli assault, according to the Iranian Health Ministry.
