Inflation in Japan's capital dips from 4-decade high

Consumer prices, excluding fresh food, up 3.3% year-on-year in February

ANKARA (AA) – Core consumer inflation in Japan’s capital Tokyo eased in February after surging to an over four-decade high in recent months, according to official data released on Friday.

In line with market forecast, consumer prices, excluding fresh food, in Tokyo rose 3.3% year-on-year in February, slowing from a 42-year high of 4.3% in January.

Overall, the consumer price index (CPI) in the Japanese capital cooled to 3.4% in February from 4.4% a month earlier, while prices excluding food and energy rose by 1.8%.

On a monthly basis, Tokyo’s core CPI was up by 0.3% in February, a steeper spike than January’s 0.1% rise.
