Iran’s president orders resumption of nuclear talks with US: Media

Talks between Iran, US were suspended following 12-day war with Israel in June 2025

TEHRAN, Iran (AA) – Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued an order to resume nuclear negotiations with the United States, Iranian media reported on Monday.

Tasnim News Agency, citing an informed source, said that the talks are likely to restart soon, involving senior officials from both countries.

However, the exact time and location of the meeting have yet to be finalized.

The negotiations, it added, are expected to take place at the level of Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff.

So far, there has been no official statement from Pezeshkian’s office regarding this development.

This move comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the US, with the American military fleet reportedly heading toward the region, as announced by President Donald Trump.

Trump confirmed that a large US “armada” was en route to the region, warning Iran to enter negotiations over its nuclear program or face potential military action.

In recent days, there has been intense diplomatic activity, with several regional countries – including Turkiye – intervening to ease tensions between the two nations.

At a weekly press conference in Tehran on Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei denied receiving “any kind of ultimatum or deadline” in negotiations with the US.

Notably, Iran and the US were engaged in indirect nuclear negotiations in June of last year when Israel launched an attack on Iran, triggering 12 days of military confrontation and sharply escalating tensions.

Following the 12-day war, Iran suspended talks with the US, holding Washington responsible for the Israeli attack.
