Israel confiscates digital currencies over Hamas support
There was no comment from Hamas on Israeli allegations
JERUSALEM (AA) – Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz on Monday signed a decree confiscating digital currencies which he said were intended to support Palestinian group Hamas.
In a statement, the Defense Ministry said Gantz “signed an order to confiscate digital currencies amounting to 10.000 shekels ($3000) from 12 digital accounts.”
According to the statement, the money was in 30 digital wallets belonging to an exchange company in Gaza City.
"The digital currency was confiscated in a joint operation of the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism of the Israeli Army,” the statement reads.
The ministry said the decision was the third of its kind within a year.
There was no comment from Hamas on the Israeli allegations.
