ISTANBUL (AA) - The Kuwaiti Mohammed Al-Ahmad Naval Base was targeted by a drone on Saturday, as air defenses successfully intercepted and neutralized the threat, the Kuwaiti military said.
In a statement on the US social media company X, the Defense Ministry spokesperson said the naval base was targeted by an unmanned aerial vehicle, adding that Kuwait’s air defense forces dealt with the threat “successfully,” protecting its airspace and safeguarding sovereignty.
The spokesperson said the interception was carried out in accordance with approved operational plans and procedures, reflecting the high level of readiness and capabilities of the air defense units and the coordination among various branches of the armed forces.
The incident came as five Arab countries hosting US military bases - Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan - reported explosions and missile interceptions Saturday amid continued Israeli and US attacks on Iran.
On Saturday morning, the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran, claiming it was meant to remove “threats” posed by the "Iranian regime.” In response, Iran targeted Israel and the US bases in the region with missiles and drones.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Saturday that Iran’s strikes on US military bases in the Middle East “do not target specific countries but are limited to military sites.”
