ISTANBUL (AA) - Several residential buildings were targeted in Bahrain’s capital Manama, the Interior Ministry said Saturday, as regional tensions continue to escalate amid the US-Israeli attack on Iran.
In a statement posted on the US social media company X, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said a number of residential buildings in Manama had been targeted, adding that civil defense teams were continuing firefighting and rescue operations at the affected sites.
The ministry said further details would be provided later.
Bahrain’s General Command of the Bahrain Defense Force said that its air defense systems had effectively intercepted “other hostile attacks” from Iran, the state-run Bahrain News Agency reported.
The command said the situation is “completely safe and under full control,” confirming that no injuries or fatalities were recorded as a result of the attack.
It added that Bahrain’s airspace remains closed as a temporary precautionary measure in anticipation of further incidents, calling the attacks an unjustified violation of international law.
The General Command stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain reserves the legitimate right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and security in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.
It also said specialized field teams continue to secure the targeted sites to ensure the safety of citizens and residents, emphasizing that its forces remain vigilant and ready to repel any aggression threatening the country’s security and stability.
Separately, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said in a post on X that sirens had been activated, urging citizens to take precautions.
On Saturday morning, the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran, claiming it was meant to remove “threats” posed by the Iranian “regime.” In response, Iran targeted Israel and the US bases in the region with missiles and drones.
