Leaders Liverpool beat mid-table Chelsea 4-1 in Premier League

Liverpool beat mid-table Chelsea 4-1 in a Wednesday English Premier League match to restore their five-point lead over title contenders Manchester City and Arsenal.

Liverpool's Diogo Jota scored the opener in the 23rd minute at Anfield Stadium. Conor Bradley assisted him.

Bradley, a 20-year-old Liverpool right back, doubled the gap six minutes before half time, scoring a low shot.

Then Liverpool were awarded a penalty, but Darwin Nunez hit the post.

In the 65th minute, Liverpool made it three as Hungarian star Dominik Szoboszlai scored a header after Bradley's cross from the right flank. This was Bradley's second assist in the match.

Chelsea narrowed the gap to two goals in the 71st minute as Christopher Nkunku scored a solo-effort goal.

Liverpool cemented a 4-1 win as Luis Diaz made a close-range finish in the 79th minute.

Called the Reds, Liverpool boosted their points to 51 in 22 matches.

Second-place Manchester City, who have a game in hand, have 46 points. Arsenal also have 46 points to be third.

On Sunday, Liverpool will visit Arsenal in a critical match at London's Emirates Stadium.

Man City, who beat Burnley 3-1 at home on Wednesday, will next play against Brentford in a Monday away match.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur won against Brentford 3-2 in London to move to fourth position. Spurs, who have 43 points, are seeking a mistake by Manchester City and Arsenal in the next matchday to close the gap.

Spurs will next visit Everton on Saturday.
