ANKARA (AA) - Malaysia’s 5G network will use new Ericsson radios to be more energy efficient and reduce power consumption at the network level, saving 18% in energy consumption, the company said Thursday.
The Swedish telecommunications firm said Malaysia will be the first country in Asia to use the new AIR 3268 energy-saving radios.
"The AIR 3268’s improved energy efficiency will reduce the cost of operations and impact on the environment," David Hägerbro, head of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh, said in a statement.
"The new generation radios that will be deployed throughout Malaysia by Digital Nasional Berhad will be comparatively more energy efficient, thereby ensuring a more sustainable and responsible 5G rollout," he added.
The 5G technology's effect on the digital economy includes various sectors, including energy, entertainment, health care, logistics, manufacturing, retail, tourism, agriculture, airports and airlines, banking and finance, and education, according to Digital Nasional Berhad, owned by the Ministry of Finance Malaysia.
The 5G network offers 10 to 100 times faster speeds, 1,000 times more connections than 4G with 1 million connected devices per square kilometer and five times more energy efficient compared to earlier generations, according to its website.
