Nasdaq opens higher to recoup previous session's losses
Tech-heavy index gains 1.8% shortly after opening bell, following 1.35% drop on Wednesday

ISTANBUL (AA) – The Nasdaq opened higher on Thursday, recouping the previous day’s losses, while other major indices on the US stock market were also up with the first bell.
The Nasdaq jumped 182 points, or 1.8%, to 10,396 at 9.50 a.m. EDT (1450GMT) after the tech-heavy index lost 1.35% on Wednesday.
The S&P 500 rose 43 points, or 1.14%, to 3,826, while the Dow Jones gained 255 points, or 0.8%, to reach 33,131.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 2% to 21.70. The 10-year US Treasury yield decreased 0.77% to 3.856%.
The dollar index declined 0.53% to 103.91, while the euro gained 0.4% to $1.0649 against the greenback.
Precious metals were up, with gold climbing 0.5% to $1,814 per ounce and silver rising 1.8% to $23.97.
Crude oil prices were down by more than 1%. Global benchmark Brent crude lost 1.2% to $82.95 per barrel, while US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude slipped 1.4% to around $77.82.
