Pakistani foreign minister, UN chief discuss international peace, security

ISLAMABAD (AA) - Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke over the phone and discussed international peace and security, according to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.

During the phone call, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to promoting international peace and security, and emphasized the country’s longstanding support for the peaceful resolution of disputes, a ministry statement said.

Pakistan assumed the rotating Presidency of the UN Security Council for July.

Dar, who is also Pakistan’s deputy prime minister, also briefed the UN secretary-general on the signature events Pakistan is convening during its presidency to advance key global peace and security objectives, the statement said.

Both leaders expressed their intention to engage in person in New York next week during activities related to Pakistan’s Presidency of the council, it said.

Dar further reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the UN and its personnel in carrying out their mandate effectively, underscoring Islamabad’s dedication to multilateralism and global cooperation, according to the ministry.
