ANKARA (AA) - Poland on Thursday reported 637 new deaths and 23,975 additional cases over the last 24 hours from the novel coronavirus in its highest daily figure since the start of the pandemic.

With the new cases, 796,798 people have so far tested positive for COVID-19 and 12,088 lost their lives since the outbreak began in the country, health authorities reported.

Some 22,536 COVID-19 patients are currently under treatment in hospitals countrywide, with 2,080 under intensive care.

Over the past day, total recoveries reached to 316,886.

Last month, Poland introduced stricter measures against the virus, including a limit on the working hours of such venues as shopping malls, hotels, cinemas and museums, as well as a return to remote education for schools.

According to the new measures, children under 16 will only be able to leave their homes under adult supervision between 8.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m.

Restaurants, cafes and pubs are only allowed to provide delivery services.
