BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - Serbia is expecting the second batch of BioNTech and Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine to arrive on Jan. 4, said the health minister on Friday.

Zlatibor Loncar said the new contingent of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine will arrive in Serbia on Jan. 4, and then another part on Jan. 11 to complete a total of more than 60,000 doses.

Loncar added that it is enough for nursing homes as well as some health workers.

The Serbian prime minister on Thursday received the BioNTech and Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine showing that the vaccine is valid and officially launched the country's vaccination campaign against coronavirus.

Ana Brnabic along with Social Policy Minister Darija Kisic Tepavcevic received the vaccine as a sign of trust.

Brnabic has become the first European prime minister to receive the vaccine.

On Tuesday, 4,875 doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine arrived in Serbia, and the vaccination started Thursday in the homes for the elderly.

Serbia is the only Western Balkan country which received the vaccine against COVID-19.
