Singapore police on Wednesday said they arrested 10 foreigners aged between 31 and 44 for their suspected involvement in forgery and money laundering, in a case involving $1 billion ($737 million) worth of assets.
After receiving information of "possible illicit activities," extensive investigations and follow-up from intelligence, police identified a group of foreign nationals suspected to be involved in laundering the proceeds of crime, including scams and online gambling, their statement said.
More than 400 officers on Tuesday conducted simultaneous raids across the city-state to arrest the suspects. Twelve others are assisting with investigations and eight others are currently wanted.
Prohibition of disposal orders were issued against 94 properties and 50 vehicles, with a total estimated value of more than S$815 million.
Other seizures included bank accounts, cash, luxury bags, jewelry, watches, electronic devices and documents with information on virtual assets.
Commercial Affairs Department Director David Chew said the police will work with law enforcement agencies and financial intelligence units to detect, deter and prevent Singapore from hosting such criminal elements.
