S&P 500 climbs to highest since April 2022 as US stocks post gains

ISTANBUL (AA) – The S&P 500 closed Monday at its highest level since April 2022, as US stocks posted gains to end the session.

The stock exchange increased 40 points, or 0.93%, to finish the day at 4,338 points.

The blue-chip Dow Jones was up 189 points, or 0.56%, to end the session at 34,066.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq jumped 202 points, or 1.53%, to finish at 13,461.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, soared 8.5% to 15.01. The 10-year US Treasury yield, meanwhile, fell 0.3% to 3.734%.

The dollar index added 0.05% to 103.61, while the euro gained just 0.1% to see $1.0758 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in decline, with gold losing 0.1% to $1,958 per ounce and silver trimming 1% to $24.06.

Oil prices plummeted around 4%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $72.01 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $67.28.
