Spanish labor inspectors launch indefinite strike
They claim improved working conditions, salaries
By Senhan Bolelli
MADRID (AA) - Labor inspectors in Spain on Monday launched an indefinite strike for the first time, according to media reports.
Unions representing labor inspectors decided to protest against the shortcomings of the government's strategic plan, which was adopted in 2021 to reinforce the inspectorate.
The labor inspectors' indefinite strike is the first in the country's history, as they complain that there are only 3,100 inspectors for 20 million workers, the Spanish daily El Pais reported.
They demand a rise in their number, as well as an improvement of their working conditions and salaries.
The unions also noted that despite the walkouts in December 2022-February 2023, the Labor Ministry did not take a step regarding the previous negotiations.
