ISTANBUL (AA) – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani held talks on Thursday in Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and exploring opportunities for cooperation.

“The possibility of long-term beneficial cooperation between the two countries for the establishment of joint production enterprises, processing and production of competitive export products, especially drinking water and high-quality environmentally friendly fruits and vegetables was also discussed,” the Tajik presidency said in a statement.

The meeting allowed the parties to discuss a wide range of issues including political, economic, commercial, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, said the statement.

“During the meeting, the parties paid attention to the issue of holding business forums and exhibitions of goods and products of the two countries in each other's territories and to the effective activity of the Intergovernmental Commission on economic, commercial, technical and scientific cooperation,” it said.

In the statement, both Sheikh Tamim and Rahmon stressed that enhancing the constructive political dialogue between the two nations is a key point of discussion, with a particular focus on expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Both leaders acknowledged the significance of strengthening the legal framework to support their bilateral ties, according to the Tajik presidency statement.

Rahmon emphasized the need for increased trade volume and diversification of trade structure while also expressing a keen interest in expanding investment cooperation with Qatar.

“The implementation of the first stage of the ‘Diyar Dushanbe’ complex project by the ‘Diyar’ company of Qatar was considered an example of effective cooperation between the two countries,” it said.

Sheikh Tamim is on a regional tour of Central Asia, where he previously visited Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, respectively.
