Tesla's sales in Germany fall 76% amid Musk's moves

ISTANBUL (AA) - Tesla's sales plummeted 76% in Germany in February compared to a year ago, according to data Wednesday from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority.
Sales in January of the US-based electrical car (EV) manufacturer fell 60% compared to January 2024,
Tesla managed to sell 1,429 cars in Germany in February but the overall sales of electric vehicles saw a rise of 30.8%, amounting to 35,949 sold.
In the months preceding parliamentary election in Germany on Feb. 23, Musk threw his support behind the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), an anti-immigrant party.
Friedrich Merz, the probable future chancellor, has promised to keep the AfD at bay, despite its dramatic rise to second place in the elections.
Other factors, including strong competition in the EV market, most notably by Chinese BYD, also caused Tesla's sales to fall in Germany.
