Turkey: Unemployment rises to 11.3 pct in September
Despite higher unemployment, 408,000 jobs added to economy compared to a year earlier
ANKARA (AA) - Unemployment inched up 1 percentage point in September compared to the same month last year, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced Thursday.
The number of unemployed persons age 15 and over rose to 3.52 million in September 2016, 420,000 more than a year earlier, pushing the unemployment rate to 11.3 percent, according to the state body.
On a monthly basis, unemployment was flat compared to the previous month.
Though unemployment rose, the Turkish economy added 408,000 jobs in September compared to a year earlier.
