Turkish stock down at midweek's close

Benchmark BIST 100 index drops over 153 points on Wednesday

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed Wednesday at 9,763.67 points, decreasing 1.55% from the previous close.

The BIST 100 index, starting the day at 9,923.44, fell by 153.22 points from the close on Monday.

The lowest point for the index during the day was 9,759.01, while the daily high was 9,953.91.

As many as 80 indexes lost in value, while 19 closed the day with gains.

The total transaction volume reached 119 billion Turkish liras ($3.29 billion), while the overall value of the index was 8.58 trillion liras ($237 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 36.2980 as of 6.40 pm local time (1540GMT), the EUR/TRY rate stood at 37.8940, and the GBP/TRY traded at 45.7450.

The price of gold was $2,936.20 per ounce, while the barrel price of Brent oil was $76.
