Turkish stock exchange closes Monday in red

BIST 100 index loses 33.53 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Türkiye's benchmark stock index decreased 0.66% to close at 5,059.35 on Monday.

Starting the week at 5,112.01 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 33.53 points compared to Friday's close.

The index's lowest value during the day was 5,057.48, while its daily high was 5,138.08.

The total market value of BIST 100 was around 4.2 trillion Turkish liras ($216.4 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 46 billion Turkish liras ($2.86 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 19.3831 as of 6.32 p.m. local time (1532GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 21.1664, while a British pound traded for 23.9653 Turkish liras.

Brent crude oil was selling for around $85.04 per barrel, while the price of an ounce of gold was $2,004.55.

Türkiye's central government budget posted a deficit of 47.2 billion Turkish liras ($2.5 billion) in March, falling 32% in lira terms compared to last year, according to official data released on Monday.
