Turkish stock exchange down at close

Benchmark BIST 100 index down 115.9 points at Wednesday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed the midweek at 8,744.58 points, down 1.31% from the previous close.

The BIST 100 index started the day at 8,856.29 points and ended it down 115.93 points from Tuesday's close.

The lowest value of the index for the day was 8,814.80, while its daily high was 8,970.75.

Some 21 indexes rose in value, while 77 were down.

The total transaction volume reached 108 billion Turkish liras ($3.42 billion), while the overall value of the index was 7.47 trillion liras ($236.8 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 31.7090 as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT), the EUR/TRY rate stood at 34.6290, and the GBP/TRY traded at 40.3945.

The price of one ounce of gold was $2,148.40, while the barrel price of Brent oil was around $83.40.
